blog-talk
Over at Contentious, Amy writes about character blogs, "weblogs that are 'written' by a fictional character."
I entertained doing something like that as I was coming up with the Caleb Walker blog name. But I didn't think I had it in me to maintain a fictional persona for long, and I think I was right. It also seemed like a kind of cheesy thing to do. I still think so.
But now, as the energy I expend on this thing wanes, I think about my options again. Option number one, of course, is to walk away from it and stop paying my TypePad dues. I'm not ready to do that yet. Option two is to buck up and start posting again like before. Okay. Option three is to change the format into something more interesting--something that might attract more regular readers and that might rekindle the excitement.
One example of option three is to post fiction exclusively. Things like my little stories about Caleb. I'm picturing a blog like a daily (or semi-weekly) text web comic. Maybe just create little scenes like a comic strip would, but textually. (All Over Coffee is an inspiration.) Create a cast of characters. Make them interact. Use stories from my own life as fodder. Here's what's keeping me from wholly embracing this idea: I'm not sure that these little scenes are going to be interesting or funny. I feel a little skeevy about posting about myself and simply changing the names. Plus, I'm not sure I could keep a real storyline going for long.
So until I make a decision about all this, I think I need to go back to option two: buck up, Bucko.
