So there was this football game on Sunday that the Steelers won. I'm not a Steeler fan but I watched the game, which turned out to be a very exciting one.
Then this morning I took a bus downtown for a dentist appointment. Turns out this is the morning of the Steelers victory parade or whatever it is. So all of the streets downtown are closed. That means no busses. The police officer I asked didn't know where I could find one. The guy at the Port Authority office didn't know.
All the streets leading to Grant Street were blocked (that is, almost all the streets in downtown Pittsburgh) and were lined with fans in black and yellow clothes and all sorts of funny hats. Guys were selling crappy pennants on sticks for five bucks each. A police officer was writing up one of those guys in the middle of Grant Street. "Now what are you going to do as soon as you leave here?" I didn't want to seem like a neb in this particular situation so I didn't wait for the answer. Soon I was at the perimeter where the streets were jammed with honking cars. Just beyond that was the place where buses were turning around to head outbound again. I got on one there.
A big guy sat across the aisle from me and dialed his phone. "No, I'm still downtown because of this bullshit-ass parade shit. Pardon my language."
